New Year Updates

We have been back to school for over a week now and many students have been sick.  We are trying to get the students who were absent caught up, while proceeding with normal activities of the day.  Please encourage your child to do their best to get their missing work finished in a timely manner.

In Social Studies we are learning about Vikings and review some of the things we learned about Vikings.  We learned about why they moved around, what they were looking for and how they affected others lives.

In Reading, we were working on non-fiction text features.  We learned how those different text features help us better understand the information that we are reading. This week we are reviewing some of the strategies:  summarizing, reading with meaning and feeling, and using punctuation.

In Math, we are working on multiplication of  6, 7, 8, 9,11, and 12.   Please work with your child at home on reviewing math facts.  We would like to see them be able to recall their multiplication facts with ease.  This will help them as the move onto more difficult mathematics concepts.  We will be doing timed test.  They are working toward earning an ice cream sundae closer to the end of the year.

In Writing, we are starting out informational writing unit.  Students will be teaching readers about one specific topic of their choice.  They continue to write pen pal letters to a third grade class in the states.

In Bible we will be starting our Joseph unit.  The bible memory verse test for this week will be on Friday because we didn't have school on Monday.

The end of 2nd quarter is Thursday, January 25, 2018.  We will not have school on Friday, January 26th, 2018.

Have a great week!
